KCDCC Supports Cindy Ryu

October 30, 2009

Dear Democrats,

Earlier this year, the King County Democrats were proud to endorse Cindy Ryu

for re-election to the Shoreline City Council. Cindy was first elected in 2005, and

is currently the Mayor of Shoreline, which makes her the first Korean American

Woman Mayor in the United States. She is an active member of the Democratic

Party, where she currently serves as State Committeewoman for the 32nd District

Democrats.

As Mayor, Cindy’s record has been impeccable. She ran on a platform of transparency

and opening up Shoreline City Government to all – and that’s exactly

what she’s done. Thanks to Cindy, Shoreline now has long term plans to grow

it’s economy, create jobs and protect our natural environment. She is smart,

tough and stands on a solid base of Democratic values.

Please, I urge you to support Cindy in this year’s campaign. Make sure to postmark

your ballot by Tuesday, November 3rd.

With warm regards,

Susan C. Sheary

KCDCC Chair

Rep. Chase to work with White House

STATE REP. MARALYN CHASE SELECTED TO NATIONAL COALITION OF STATE LEADERS ON ENERGY & CLIMATE CHANGE

Rep. Chase will work with White House as Senate debates clean-energy jobs bill

October 26, 2009.
ST. PAUL, MN - State Rep. Maralyn Chase (D-Shoreline) has been selected to a national working group of state leaders working with the White House to advance federal clean-energy legislation in Congress. The group met for the first time in late September via phone, tackling energy policy issues that will put the country on course for significant progress in the clean-energy economy.

"Washington and many other states have shown real leadership building a cleaner, more energy efficient future," said Rep. Chase. "State legislators play a unique role in clean-energy jobs policies. We're elected representatives of the people, we know the businesses and labor issues in our states, and many of us see federal action as the launching pad for the next generation of innovation and prosperity in America."

Working with the White House, the group will help inform the debate surrounding the American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR 2454). Their efforts will focus on moving the country toward clean energy solutions that will create jobs and reduce America's reliance on foreign oil.

Washington is uniquely positioned to contribute innovative ideas for nationwide clean-energy policy reforms. Under the leadership of Governor Gregoire, Washington state is one of several states recognized as a model for the country's new clean-energy economy.

"Washington has again taken the opportunity to lead," said Rep. Chase. "Our recent efforts at the state level are at the cutting edge of job creation and innovation in the clean-energy economy–and one of the few areas of job growth during the current downturn. The progress we've made can serve as a model for the rest of the country as Congress takes needed action to build a prosperous economy and a more secure clean energy future."

Rep. Chase will be participating in the working group along with 40 other state legislators from across the nation.

PDC complaint filed on Hutchison

Susan Hutchison’s PDC filings riddled with errors, leading the King County Democratic Central Committee to file a major PDC complaint alleging 81 violations

Hutchison campaign is not paying for luxury Laurelhurst home used as campaign office and nearly $20,000 in other mystery expenses are completely unaccounted for, among numerous other violations

Renton (Oct. 13) – A check of Susan Hutchison’s filings with the Public Disclosure Commission has found 81 violations of campaign finance reporting laws, including two major violations amounting to tens of thousands of dollars. The King County Democratic Central Committee today filed a major complaint with the PDC detailing these violations and calling for a full and complete investigation.

“The sheer volume of these violations amounts to a flagrant attempt to skirt campaign finance reporting laws,” said Susan Sheary, chair of the King County Democratic Central Committee.

Among the most serious violations is evidence that Hutchison is using a luxury Laurelhurst home as her campaign office without paying any rent on the property – illegally allowing her campaign to avoid rents payments estimated between $10,000 and $20,000.

Use of this home as a campaign office is clearly visible here in the KCTS Connects story about Susan Hutchison.

Moreover, the Hutchison campaign has illegally concealed nearly $20,000 in expenses from the scrutiny of the media and public. These mystery expenses, late in the primary campaign, have gone completely unreported in the Hutchison campaign’s filings, a direct and massive violation of the law.

The complaint also details dozens of other violations, including failure to report required information, and repeatedly filing required disclosure forms as much as twenty days late.

These violations come despite the fact that Hutchison employs a professional campaign treasurer.

The full text of the complaint, including specific details of each of the 81 reporting violations, is enclosed.

Local Candidate Forums

On Thursday, September 17, the Briarcrest Neighborhood Association hosted a forum for Shoreline City Council candidates. All but one of the candidates for Shoreline City Council attended the forum. Nearly 100 people from the neighborhood attended.

On a daily basis, we interact more with our City and County government more than our State or Federal government, but often we know less about what is happening in our City Halls. At these forums, each of the candidates will provide their vision for your City, and we encourage you to attend. They are a great chance for you to compare candidates for Council or a way to show support for your favorite candidates.

These forums for local candidates are scheduled all across the 32nd District, and as we learn about them, they will be posted on our calendar and included in our newsletter. As a district, we will try to videotape the forums and post them on this website, so if you are unable to attend, you can judge the candidates yourself.

Recount in Edmonds Over

Adrienne Fraley-Monillas, our endorsed candidate for Edmonds City Council, position 3, finished first in a three-way primary after completion of a hand recount. This race illustrates why every vote counts.

Adrienne will face Lora Petso in the general election in November. Petso gained four votes after the recount, finishing second ahead of current City Councilmember Ron Wambolt. Before the recount, Petso was three votes ahead of Wambolt.

Adrienne has been endorsed by labor organizations, the Snohomish County Democrats, Progressive Majority, and many other civic organizations and community leaders.

Final results:

32nd District Democrats Hold Endorsement Meeting

32nd District Democrats show unity
Elect to support 15 local Democratic candidates in 2009

Shoreline, Wash.  (July 10, 2009) In an expression of shared Democratic values, the 32nd District Democrats voted to endorse 15 local Democratic candidates running for election in 2009 at the District's endorsement meeting at the Shoreline Historical Museum.

"We are excited about these candidates," said 32nd District Democrats Chair Carin Chase. "Once elected, they will fight for our shared values, and not special interests."

In the most contested endorsement of the evening, the District voted to endorse both Diane Buckshins and Strom Peterson for Edmonds City Council, Position 2. "I share your progressive ideals," said Peterson. "I believe Point Wells should be a park," said Buckshins. Peterson received a vote of 29-2 from the membership while Buckshins received a vote of 22-12. In order to receive the District's endorsement, a candidate needed 60% of the vote.

The District gave support to Wendy DiPeso's write-in campaign for Shoreline City Council Position 1. "Wendy is a great champion for local businesses," said Elaine Phelps "and she would be a valuable asset on the City Council."

For the City of Lake Forest Park, the District voted to endorse Councilmember Alan Keist in his quest for reelection. The District also endorsed Brad Larssen for Kirkland City Council, Position 3, and Diane Brennan, Bob Hensel, and Patrick O'Brien for Kenmore City Council.

The District voted to endorse Corey Murata who is running for Shoreline School Board Position 2. While speaking to the membership, Murata argued, "openness and trust go a long way in making the tough decisions the Board faces." He spoke out against the School Board's handling of the Shoreline Museum.

In previous meetings, the District endorsed Larry Phillips and Dow Constantine for King County Executive, Cindy Ryu, Janet Way, and Christopher Roberts for Shoreline City Council, Jean Thomas for Lake Forest Park City Council, and Priya Cloutier and Adrienne Fraley-Monilas for Edmonds City Council. A full list of endorsements are available on the 32nd District's website - http://www.32democrats.org.

The 32nd District Democrats represents all or portions of the cities of Edmonds, Kirkland, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park and Shoreline, as well as portions of unincorporated King and Snohomish counties. The District regularly meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month.
